The Story of Alberto

My name is Alberto García, and I am the third generation of a family of Spanish bakers. Many years ago, my grandfather Natalio and my grandmother Concepción, invested their lifetime savings in their dream, to open a bakery.

My grandfather trained as a pastry chef in a very special place (famous for its conch-shaped cakes): the island of Mallorca off the coast of Spain. Having never flown before, he made the bold move to pack his things and relocate his family to ‘la Isla Bonita’, next to the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean, so he could learn and train. While living in Mallorca, he discovered a small beach alcove, known as Cala Millor, which became his favorite secluded spot on the island. It was in the 1970s when he had the idea to move back to Madrid to open his first Spanish bakery, Cala Millor.

Years later, his son-in-law, my father, José took over the business and with great tenacity, hard work and effort created what today is one of the most recognized bakeries in Spain, with 5 locations throughout Madrid. Half a century later, as a son and grandson, I have crossed the ocean to fulfill another dream…to bring Cala Millor to America.

I leave my homeland, my friends and my roots and look forward to a new adventure so that I can share with you, a taste of home. I bring the experience accumulated over decades working side by side with my family, and the appreciation for hard work with the highest standards, instilled by the generations before me.
